“The best part has been seeing the lot. It makes the home seem tangible” – Ms. Harris
2025 Women Build Family
Ms. Harris
Ms. Harris is a proud Dallas native who grew up in the vibrant community of Oak Cliff. A dedicated teacher by profession, she brings the same passion to her personal life—especially when it comes to her daughter, Jordyn. At 13, Jordyn is a creative soul who loves skating, playing the piano, and making digital art. Together, the two share a love for adventure and fun, often attending concerts, skating together, and exploring new places. Their bond is strong, and their shared hobbies bring a beautiful energy to their day-to-day lives.
For the past 14 years, Ms. Harris has been living in a multigenerational household in Dallas. While she cherishes the time spent with family, including frequent visits from relatives drawn to the presence of her grandmother, she looks forward to the peace and privacy that will come with owning her own home. A space to call her own will bring a new chapter for her and Jordyn—one filled with quiet moments, personal growth, and creative freedom. Jordyn is especially excited to decorate and make her new space truly her own.
Dallas Habitat has played a pivotal role in helping Ms. Harris achieve her dream of homeownership. After hearing glowing recommendations from other Habitat homeowners, she decided to take the leap. What began as a hopeful search for affordable housing quickly turned into a transformative experience. From her first contact with Monica Cunningham, who kept her informed every step of the way, to the surprising speed of the process once she chose her lot, Ms. Harris has felt supported and empowered. “The best part has been seeing the lot. It makes the home seem tangible,” she shared with a smile.
Now, as part of the 2025 Women Build Dallas Campaign, Ms. Harris feels honored to represent strength, resilience, and the power of community. She sees homeownership not just as a personal victory, but as a foundation for future generations. Being part of a neighborhood where people support and uplift each other means everything to her—and she’s thrilled that her daughter will grow up in such a space. Ms. Harris’s story is a shining example of what’s possible with hard work, hope, and a little help from those who believe in building dreams.
