Things to Donate When Renovating
When you’re renovating your home, you always end up with piles of scrap, old appliances, and used furniture. Instead of throwing it in the dumpster, consider donating your renovation materials! When you donate your renovation materials to Habitat for Humanity, we repurpose or resell them in our ReStore, where all the profits go directly into building new homes for deserving families!
What Can I Donate from My Renovations?
Keep your bulky and unwanted items out of the landfill by donating them instead! We’ll turn your throw-aways into someone else’s home improvement treasure. Just make sure that what you donate is in good condition. We cannot accept damaged, broken, cracked, or otherwise unusable furnishings.
1. Bathroom And Kitchen Fixtures
Did you know you can donate your sinks, toilets, showers, plumbing, tubs, and lighting fixtures? Just make sure they’re not chipped, cracked, or stained. Think your stuff is too old? Think again! Vintage fixtures (in good shape) are in high demand right now. Call your local Habitat ReStore with any questions you might have about the condition of your items.
2. Appliances
Any major appliances that you’re looking to unload, we’re happy to take! As long as they are in working condition, we take:
- Stoves
- Refrigerators
- Dishwashers
- Washers
- Dryers
- Small kitchen appliances (toasters, blenders, KitchenAid mixers, etc.)
We do ask that they are clean and functional when we pick them up. When we sell these appliances in our store it keeps them out of the landfill, helps someone buy an affordable appliance, and the profit goes straight into building homes for deserving families! That’s a win-win-win!
3. Cabinets
When you’re renovating a kitchen, it usually means ripping out your kitchen cabinets. Luckily, you can recycle them and cut back on construction waste by donating them! You can also save money by avoiding the dreaded haul away fees for renovation scraps and materials!
Just make sure that your cabinets are in good working order when they’re removed–the drawers and doors should still work and be in good condition so they can find a new home!
4. Lighting Fixtures
Whether you’re replacing an old school chandelier with an Edison bulb fixture or you just can’t stand the mismatched switch covers in your home anymore, Habitat can help. We’re happy to haul away any lamps, lighting fixtures, sconces, chandeliers, etc. that you find yourself left with!
