A World Where Everyone Has A Decent Place To Live
At Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity, we see a Dallas where every neighborhood is proud and we are proud of every neighborhood. To move us closer to this reality, we need to understand how homeownership fits into the picture of the Dallas we want to build.
Our Mission
Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity builds strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
More than a roof, homeownership is a catalyst for transforming our communities, building financial stability for generations, increasing educational success, and priming the neighborhood for economic development.
As part of our mission, Dallas Habitat is building homeowner equity and asset wealth, addressing the affordable housing gap, strengthening neighborhoods and improving health and education for children and families. Dallas Habitat is advocating for new policies and products that will create a better value proposition for our community and homeowners.
Our Story
Home is the foundation on which we build our lives and thriving communities. Yet, for many Texans, homeownership is out of reach. Factors such as quality, cost, and availability, along with systemic barriers, hinder those on the path to homeownership and financial freedom.
Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity (Dallas Habitat) has a longstanding legacy of bringing people together to create vibrant, connected, and prosperous communities through affordable homeownership. Founded in 1986, we know that homeownership is a stabilizing and empowering force in families and communities, improving economic, health, educational, and environmental outcomes that impact us all.
Dallas Habitat works across every stage of the housing process to address housing inequity, the unfair access to safe, affordable homes, in our region. Through home construction, repair, education and tools, zero-down-payment, and zero-interest mortgages, we work with hardworking families on their journey toward affordable homeownership and continue to support them once they become homeowners.
We’re proud of our heritage as one of the earliest U.S. affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International. Guided by our faith-founded roots and core values — Joy, Dignity, Service, Excellence, and Accountability — we partner with families and communities to listen, collaborate, and co-create solutions. By valuing diverse perspectives, being grounded in community needs, and remaining open to change, we make our global mission local and help create a better future for our neighbors.
Advancing access to affordable homeownership for all requires a collective response. We’re grateful to the thousands of volunteers, donors, supporters, developers, and staff who have joined us and championed our mission over the years. With your support, we’ve built or restored 2,210 homes throughout Dallas and Kaufman counties, invested more than $100 million into our local economy, and helped generations of our neighbors achieve financial independence.
Together, we build a stronger Dallas.
Our Core Values

We Choose Joy
Joy is a sense of connection to something greater than ourselves, a force that motivates us to care for ourselves and one another with compassion, kindness, and hope. In choosing joy, we nurture a culture of understanding, patience, generosity, and shared humanity. Joy strengthens our capacity to serve, to connect, and to thrive even in challenging times.

We Honor Dignity
Dignity is the inherent worth and value of every person. Honoring dignity means acting from a place of love, humility, and justice in all our relationships. It calls us to listen to understand, act with cultural awareness, and cultivate relationships rooted in compassion, empathy, and mutual care. We uplift one another by centering our shared humanity in every interaction.

We Commit to Excellence
Excellence is rooted in stewardship, curiosity, and care. It is a commitment to continuous learning, adapting, and growing. We pursue excellence not for perfection, but as an expression of justice, integrity, and deep care for the people and communities we serve. We make bold, strategic choices while remaining grounded in humility and compassion.

We Embody Service
Embodying service means giving our time, energy, and care with humility, love, and a commitment to justice. It’s about empowering others, centering dignity, and holding ourselves to the highest standards — not out of obligation, but as a reflection of our shared humanity and our desire to make a meaningful difference.

We Hold Ourselves Accountable
Accountability is relational care in action. It is the commitment to integrity, trust, and shared responsibility. We hold ourselves — and one another — accountable not to punish, but to repair, grow, and ensure we live into our values.
What We Do
Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity is an affordable housing developer and community partner expanding access to safe, affordable homeownership for families too often excluded from opportunities to build stability and generational wealth.
Who We Serve
We serve families and individuals in Dallas and Kaufman counties seeking stable and affordable housing. We focus on families earning between 50% and 120% of the area median income, which ranges from $60,550 to $145,320 for a family of four. Take the first step to become a homeowner.
Non-Proselytizing Policy
Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations, including Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity will not proselytize, nor will Habitat for Humanity work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with Habitat for Humanity. This means that Habitat for Humanity will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must (i) adhere to or convert to a particular faith or (ii) listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
