We welcome individuals, corporations, community groups, faith congregations, student groups and others to join us in building affordable homeownership opportunities for local families. No prior experience needed–we’ll show you what to do!

Construction Volunteer

Individuals, company teams, schools and community groups are welcome to join us on home build construction projects throughout the Dallas area.

ReStore Volunteer

Donations to Dallas area habitat

ReStores are home improvement and decor stores that sell new and gently used items to help fund our mission. Volunteers provide support to help the ReStores run smoothly, including greeting customers, stocking items, assembling furniture, and more.

Youth Volunteer

Dallas area habitat for humanity

Through our youth volunteer programs, young people ages 14-18, can learn new skills as part of our Habitat U Jr program and put them to practice by volunteering at home builds and ReStore with mentors.

There are many other unique volunteer opportunities available throughout the year outside of Construction and ReStore, including in-office admin projects, neighborhood clean-ups, special events.

Volunteers join a week-long international volunteer experience building or improving homes in partnership with local communities.

How do I sign up?

Register via our VolunteerHub Portal. Group coordinators will receive a join code to share.

Do minors need to register?

Yes. All volunteers, including minors, must register. A digital waiver will be required for those under 18.

Can I volunteer with others?

Yes! For groups of 5+, contact the Volunteer Engagement Team. Guests are welcome if space allows—check with your coordinator if part of a group.

What should I bring or expect on-site?

Bring your own lunch/snacks unless otherwise noted. If you’re ever unsure about a task or it feels uncomfortable, just let the on-site manager or a Core volunteer know—we’re happy to help you find a role that fits!

What are the age requirements?
  • Construction: 16+ (no ladders over 6ft or power tools for minors)
  • Dallas Habitat ReStore & Community Projects: 14+ (under 16 must be with an adult)
Can I get credit for hours?

Yes. Hours can be tracked on your profile in VolunteerHub or you can request a verification letter.

What happens in case of inclement weather?
  • Construction: May proceed if conditions are safe. Cancellations will be communicated via email and/or text.
  • Dallas Habitat ReStore: Typically remains open unless inclement weather poses a safety risk.
Are there other ways to volunteer?
Absolutely! Beyond builds and ReStore shifts, you can support our mission through office volunteering, special events, community clean-ups, or by serving as an advocate. There’s truly something for everyone.
What will I be doing?

Home Builds: You might frame walls, load trusses, apply sheathing and blue board, windows and siding installation, or apply exterior paint.

Wall Shop: Measuring and cutting lumber, forming and nailing wall components, and assembling walls.

Home Rehabs & Repair: Tasks may include interior demolition, trash and debris removal, assist with minor repairs or exterior paint. 

ReStores: Organizing merchandise, assembling furniture, assisting customers, unloading donations, pricing items, and helping keep the store clean and welcoming.

What should I wear?

Closed-toe shoes are required. Dress for the weather. No headphones or ballcaps.

Can I come late or leave early?

We ask volunteers to stay for the full shift. If something comes up, let your site leader or group coordinator know.

Can I do court-ordered service here?

Yes, but only at Dallas Habitat ReStores. Contact us first to confirm eligibility.
