From Renting to Owning: Rosalind's Journey to Homeownership
Deep Roots in Dallas
Born in Abilene and raised in Dallas, Rosalind has called Dallas home for 47 years. She works as a cook and loves spending her free time traveling, decorating, and enjoying quality moments with her family. Her daughter, Martika, age 35, shares those same simple joys: family time and watching movies together are among their favorite ways to relax and stay connected.
A Dream of Privacy and Freedom
When asked what she looks forward to most about her new Dallas Habitat home, she lights up describing the privacy, the ability to decorate as she pleases, and the freedom to make changes in her own space. “Having my own yard and being able to make changes as I please” captures what homeownership means to her: independence and peace.
She first learned about Dallas Habitat through her daughter, who is also a Habitat homeowner, and felt inspired to take the same step toward stability.
A Great Program for First-Time Homebuyers
Before starting the process, she already had positive thoughts about Habitat, knowing firsthand the life-changing impact it had on her daughter. Through the homeownership program, she hoped to gain both knowledge and a home, and that’s exactly what she’s found.
She describes Dallas Habitat as “a great program for first-time buyers” and says she’s been treated “very well” throughout the journey. The biggest surprise, she adds with gratitude, has been getting a home of her own.
What Homeownership Feels Like
Now, after four months of living in her new house, she says it’s brought her “a sense of stability” and a chance to create generational wealth. She envisions a neighborhood that is family oriented and caring, a place where she and her daughter can continue building roots and community. The best part of the process, she reflects, has been gaining valuable knowledge of homeownership, a foundation that will last for years to come.
“Homeownership means to me: independence and peace.”
